Here’s looking at the team with the top goaltending (Boston) these past 5 years versus the worst (Toronto). It basically just looks like the ends flip, otherwise nearly identical shot patterns - horseshoe, both teams with a lot of shots in the home plate area.
One observation, though…it sure seems like there are more shots recorded as taken near the boards against Boston versus Toronto. Might this be evidence of a slight ability to control the center of the ice? Hard to say. But the scoring chance “home plate” looks similar for sure.
